A Solar First in Sonoma County!! Our Inn is totally powered by solar generated electricity.

Installed in the summer of 2006, our 6 Kilowatt array generates enough electricity for most of our winter heating and summer cooling needs. Any surplus energy is sold to PG&E at the prevailing time of day rate. This allows us to generate and sell to PG&E at premium rates in summer and buy back at winter rates for all our heating. See graph below of the typical days generation curve. 

Hot water will be back-ground heated by electricity from the grid and topped off to the guest rooms with gas heating. Our bedrooms feature individual base-board heaters with thermostats. This form of heating could be prohibitive in energy usage and cost but with "free" solar energy we can afford our guests comfort and environmental satisfaction. Our laundry is washed with energy Star appliances and line-dried where possible for maximum environmental savings.

Our own working area has also been equipped with Solartube (tm) daylight pipes to allow us to reduce artificial lighting usage during darker winter months. All of our rooms use high efficiency fluorescent light fittings.
