      ABOUT SONOMA COUNTY: Sonoma Country is centered less than 50 miles north of San Francisco, and is now considered one of worlds leading wine producing regions. Famous for its Zinfandel and Pinot Noir, the more than 200 award-winning wineries offer beautiful tasting rooms and custom  wine pairing and vineyard tour experiences. In addition to its viniculture attractions Sonoma County offers 76 miles of stunning scenic coastline with pristine beaches, the Russian River with its stands of majestic redwoods, many challenging golf courses, outstanding music at the Wells Fargo Center and the Santa Rosa Symphony Orchestra, museums such as that devoted to Charles Schulz, shopping, botanical gardens, galleries, diverse festivals, farm markets and incredible eateries.

      Sonoma County's vineyard-lined valleys open up on 14 appellations ranging from Alexander and Dry Creek Valley through Russian River, to Sonoma Valley and Carneros.       Music and art are everywhere in Sonoma County. Enjoy the many free summer concerts, the several Blues and Jazz Festivals, the winter Santa Rosa Symphony Concert series, and the many subscription concert series based around the Santa Rosa Junior College. Repertory theater companies present in Santa Rosa on two stages at the Sixth Street Playhouse.

      Melitta Station Inn lies 4 miles from downtown Santa Rosa, the historic county seat of Sonoma County. Located in Santa Rosa are the Sonoma County Courthouse and administration, Memorial Hospital, Kaiser Permanente Medical Center, and Sutter Medical Center. Local Santa Rosa attractions loved by all ages include: The Luther Burbank Home and Gardens, Safari West, a wildlife preserve where the whole family can experience and learn about animals in wild habitat, offers up close and personal encounters with giraffe, gazelle, oryx, ostrich, African antelope and cheetahs, the Charles Schulz Museum devoted to Peanuts and Charlie Brown's cartoonist who made this area his home, and the Petrified Forest. Every July Santa Rosa hosts the Sonoma County Fair which has one of the few grass horse racing circuits.

      Sonoma is the historic mission town where the original Bear Flag Republic of California was first declared before this nascent country finally joined the Union. Attractive stores, a restored 1930's picture house and fine dining surround the plaza. Founded in 1835, the town of Sonoma is the site of California's oldest Plaza. Stroll around the picturesque town square, visit the historic mission and enjoy chic boutiques and restaurants, art galleries and artisan food products including breads, cheeses and olive oils.

      The Sonoma Valley is home  to many Wine Festivals during the year including Taste of the Valley, the Olive Festival, the Sonoma Film Festival and the Sonoma Jazz Festival. The charming villages of Glen Ellen and Kenwood are home to award-winning wineries, eclectic shops and the famous Jack London State Park. The Valley acts as the southern end of Sonoma County's wine regions.

      Healdsburg is a charming turn of the 20th century farming village turned destination with its plaza lined with stores, tasting rooms and great restaurants. It acts as the center of the northern section for Sonoma County wine tours.

      GETTING HERE: Convenient freeway access via US 101 links Sonoma County's southern getaway of Petaluma with the San Francisco Bay Area. US-101 also links northwards to Ukiah and Eureka. Scenic highway 12 links the Sonoma Valley east to Vallejo and I-80, and to the west to the coast, Via panoramic coastal Highway 1 lie Point Reyes National Seashore beyond Tomales & Valley Ford to the south and Fort Ross State Historic Park beyond Jenner to the north.
